Baufritz building solutions for changing weather patters

In recent decades we have seen whole communities affected by flooding because of changing weather patterns and the decision to build on marginal land that is vulnerable. Homeowners then rely on flood defences to protect their property and when these fail the results can be devastating.

As part of your planning application, you may be required to carry out a Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) for your development. If there is a risk, you may need to change your design approach. In many places, people build with the understanding that their land will flood, and the houses are designed accordingly. This happens for example, in the Netherlands, where much of the country is at risk of flooding. Baufritz has been involved in several projects to address this issue and our latest house Tawse, built near two rivers, has been raised above flood level.

Oliver Rehm, Baufritz UK CEO, explains in our latest podcast, “A building is always designed according to the place; we need to collect data and we can respond to that data”.

Some of the most idyllic places to build a home are near rivers or the sea. Therefore, it is important to protect your self-build project.
